Pascual Torres, Co-Founder & Honduras Executive Director of Siempre Unidos, is an attorney and Episcopal priest. He approaches the health and well-being of our patients with a strong commitment to justice and compassion. This can be seen in how he directs the clinics’ services.
Each morning, Pascual or a staff member leads the patients, seated in a large circle, through introductions. Everyone is reminded to honor others’ right to privacy. They then discuss the weekly theme – depression, zika or diabetes, for instance.
Pascual nurtures and empowers patients and staff in the face of societal and workplace discrimination. Each staff member – whether the doctor or mobile ambulance driver – promotes this ethos by their shared facilitation of the morning discussion.
In the U.S., we see the same commitment to equity and care in the religious groups who support our work. They include St. Stephen’s, Belvedere, CA, Christ Church Cathedral, Cincinnati, OH, All Saints-by-the Sea, Santa Barbara, CA, St. Margaret’s, Annapolis, MD, Church of the Holy Spirit, Lake Forest, IL, All Saints’ Church, Beverly Hills, CA, St. John’s, Ross, CA, Church of the Ascension, Knoxville, TN, St. Peter’s Church, Spotswood, NJ and the Episcopal Diocese of California, San Francisco, CA.
Siempre Unidos is not a religious organization nor does it privilege a particular faith. We greatly appreciate these faith groups and thank them for their tremendous support.
